Social media personality Okuneye Idris, known as Bobrisky, was removed from a KLM flight to Amsterdam and detained by immigration officers late Thursday night while attempting to leave the country.
Bobrisky posted on Instagram, informing his followers about the arrest and claimed he was injured during a confrontation with the officers. He alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was behind his detention, writing, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
Bobrisky’s legal troubles began in April 2024, when he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse. Although officially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports suggested he spent only three weeks there before being moved to a private location, leading to speculation about preferential treatment possibly secured through a ₦15 million bribe.

The situation intensified in September when social media influencer VeryDarkMan posted an audio recording allegedly involving Bobrisky. In the recording, He reportedly claimed that music artist Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, had requested ₦10 million to secure a presidential pardon during his imprisonment. In response, Falana and Falz issued a cease-and-desist letter on 16 October, demanding a retraction and apology, calling the statements defamatory.
Bobrisky, however, denied making the claims, stating he was not responsible for the leak and suggested the Falanas address VeryDarkMan instead.
